Rarely do I get poisoned but when I ate two pieces of raw butchered level 10 domesticated chicken meat, I got the sickness. I eat raw meat on my daily journeys, mainly because I have two fridges filled with cooked food at my base and to save inventory space. Easier said than done during a surprise attack when your only objective is to stay alive. I believe they have to bite or scratch you, so now I am concentrating on avoiding a close chase, running directly into them and/or killing them so they drop dead before reaching me and that works, no more sickness. I have noticed that poisoning from Bears, Cougars and Wolves happens when the animal gets too close to you during a chase or as you are killing them.
